Everybody
has gone through a process of breaking up and moving on, (I know, and we all
should be: D). It’s either you are the one who got away or you were left
behind. The process is the same. Life is not a fairytale where everything has a
happy ending, because if it is real, there should be no ending at all, but a continuous
love and respect for each other. So, if any of you has experienced the same
thing that happened to me, you may want to take a
look at these words, think a little then move on.
1) New
surrounding will change your attitude.
When
you broke up with someone so special in your life, you will find yourself easily
annoyed on all the places that remind you of him/her. That little kitchen where
he used to cook, the small table where you eat together, a gutter where you
fell because you’re so busy talking to him while walking and you didn’t notice
a little hump, the small store where you used to buy soda because he prefers
it more than water. Everything is a memory of your failed relationship. And if you think that you can’t handle it, it’s
better to erase it in your memory by leaving that place behind. A new environment
where your past is not included will refresh your spirit. It will repair you,
and help you pick your broken self.
2)
New face will challenge your
aptitude.
Every
day is a challenge. Even waking up in the morning doesn’t excite you anymore,
and moving on is almost next to impossible. There will even come a time when
you can’t sleep; a memory of the person will open a river of tears which won’t
stop until dawn, (I know it so well haha). Having new faces to hang out with
will revivify your mind. You will realize that there are other people that
exist in this world, not just the person in your past. Open yourself to other
people, I’m not saying that you should tell them your story, DON’T DO THAT! The
least that you want to hear is sympathy from a stranger because you will hear
the most insincere/biased emotion ever heard in the history of mending a broken
heart. Go out, meet new friends, drink
and get drunk. Do not jump and put yourself into a new relationship right away.
It’s not safe, given that your state of mind is not so accurate and I assure
you, another pain will knock on your door. It's either you'll get hurt again or you hurt the other person, either way, it's not advisable.

3)
New place means new work.
After
I broke up with my former love, I decided to render an immediate resignation to
my previous job and miraculously landed a new job in an Island, which is a good
thing. I attended training on how to make coffee. Hence, part of my future plan
now is to become a barista. New set of responsibilities will challenge you to
focus on your job instead of nursing your broken heart. You will have little
time to mourn and before you know it, you’re so over that person.
4)
New place means new point of
Contact.
After
leaving the city life and relocating to a non-remote island of Boracay, I
decided to replace every point of contacts I have with my old life. I
deactivated my FB, I gave my cell phone to my co-worker, and thrown away my
simcard. Why, because, part of me or you will always have that desire to contact
your old love, and you don’t want that; so to help you avoid it, dump
everything that reminds you of your past. Do not right down any number from
your old phone, except you family members. Your friends will understand and
your enemy wouldn’t care.
5)
New LIFE
Whether we like it or not,
change is inevitable. And we are given only one option, acceptance. Never ever
limit yourself to change. Be open to criticism, negative or positive. Negative
will offer you room for improvement while positive will encourage you to strive more.
Do not be afraid to change but rather, use it in your advantage. Every once in
a while it is important to undergo a process of metamorphosis; physically, emotionally
and spiritually. Stay away from negative people because they will pull you
down. Always think that every morning is a blessing. The mere fact that you are
able to open your eyes, and your heart is beating, it means that God is giving
you chance to rectify your life, your new life. Be a blessing to anyone you
meet. Smile more and cry less. If you and your past didn’t end up together, you
are not meant to be, simple as that, and accept it. Easy to say, but hard to
do; I know that so well. Again, we are not given any option but to accept it. What’s
more important is to not lose ourselves in the process of moving on. Love
yourself and welcome the new life your past has offered you. Once in a while,
it is important to look back on our past, but it is never fun to stay there.
You may walk fast or slow, but never walk backwards, always forward. DO not
rush anything. When the time is right, it will happen…Above all these. LOVE YOURSELF
MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE. Every morning, never forget to say “I
love you” to the person you see in the mirror. Remember, people will come and
go, but the person in the mirror will stay forever. So, love yourself and the
rest will follow. Forgive yourself and be reminded that life is too short, so
forgive those who hurt you and thank them for giving you chance to re-invent
your life alone.
